Moving From Far Away
Over the past year we have been putting together a pile of things that we have hoped to be able to put on a container that will travel on a boat over the Atlantic ocean, and on land across Africa and eventually end up at our front door step (or somewhere in the vicinity) in Chad. It may have sounded simple to us in the beginning, but over the past year we have found out how complicated it can be. The estimated delivery time once you have it packed and on it's way is anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. And then there are factors like the fact that we just recently we found out that Chad is not accepting imported containers right now for their own security precautions. Well, one thing we have learned in this process is that a lot can change in a year. So although there may be some hang-ups on the way, we are still in process of packing up our things to be shipped to Africa, along with about 10 other families. This has been a great trust building experience with these other families, and has allowed us to trust God in new ways. So many questions have come up, like what should we put on the 'said' container, and what is our back-up plan if the container falls into the ocean, and how are we going to pay for it, and on and on...
One of the biggest blessings we have experienced through the process, is seeing how God has loved us through the hands and feet of our support group at home. Because we didn't know when or where this container was going to ship from, the only action we could take before leaving Minneapolis was to gather the things together, and find a place to store them. A wonderful family offered to let us use their space, and then through the last year, a group of men and women who have committed to pray for us, and serve us in practical ways has taken care of the details of our stuff. They have bought things for us, helped us measure and weigh the items, and more. Tonight they pulled off the biggest feat, and moved all our things to the shipping location to send it on it's journey. We praise God for each and every one of you (you know who you are) who have helped us in this very practical and tangible way! Now all we have to do is wait, and pray that it all makes it there in one piece.
