The Sky

Chad is a very brown place.  In comparison with our home in Minnesota, it is almost a polar opposite climate.  In comparison to my home in Texas, however, it's not really that different.  Maybe that's one reason we like it here.  There is a special beauty about places with no trees and little ground color.  It is a beauty that comes in the sky.  The sunsets in West Texas seem bigger than any other place in the world, just for the fact that there is nothing to get in the way.  If you go just outside the Abéché city limits you find some large rocky hills that have become one of our favorite places to get a little R&R.  We usually try to go just after the hot part of the day, which means that we leave just about sunset.  I think David saw that same beauty when he was writing the Psalms.  The heavens really do declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork!  Even at night, the stars shine so much brighter here where there is less "light pollution".  All we have to do to see God's glory is to stop and look up.  It sure is easier to do in a place where there is nothing else competing for your gaze.
