Happy Birthday John Hardy
Last Saturday was John Hardy's 9th birthday and because it was on a Saturday, we got to combine some of our regular Saturday activities with some unique birthday activities.
We started the day early (as usual here in Chad) and JH opened presents at 6:30 am. (This may well be the earliest we have ever opened gifts on any given birthday.)
We had our usual Saturday morning Arabic lesson from 7 - 9 am, but this time got to share some special birthday cinnamon rolls with our language helper.
At 10 when Fatuma, our house helper came, she had promised the girls some henna. So we sat and had chai, while she painted up their finger tips and palms.
After lunch we had a short rest, followed by the long anticipated visit to the local ice cream shop. There weren't exactly 31 flavors, but we were pleasantly surprised to find at least three: white, yellow and pink. :) Everyone was ecstatic, and enjoyed the ice cream along with 'cup cakes' and some peanut butter cocoa sauce.
This was followed by more present opening. JH was given a homemade wooden sword and shield from his friend Seth, and they have enjoyed sparing every time they are together.
Next, we headed to the hills to enjoy time to run around, the fresh air and a picnic of lemonade and bananas.
What a wonderful way to celebrate such a wonderful boy!!! We love you John Hardy!
