Biographies

Over the past 10 years or so, we, as a family, have read many biographies from YWAM's Christian Heroes:  Then & Now series.  It is primarily for children, but they are well written and we have really enjoyed every one of them.  We have heard about God's work in the South Pacific, Africa, India, China, Mexico, with translators, doctors, pilots, from the perspective of men and women, from the founders of Wycliffe Bible Translators, China Inland Mission, SIM...it has been amazing.  We have read about incredible suffering and heard of the wonderful works of God in many places.

Currently we are reading about Isobel Kuhn who served in China among the Lisu with her husband John in the early to mid 1900's.  It is nearly impossible to imagine her life - so isolated that it took 3 weeks for them to hear about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  They lived in a place where it might take 2 weeks to trek across mountain ranges to get to a desired village.  They had dark times of suffering and death from diseases that are treatable today.  Yet they persevered - may the Lord give us such a clear view of him that we can endure whatever is needed for his Kingdom to advance!
