Desert Scenery

Finally some pictures of our trip.
We thought we would give yo an idea of the scenery in Chad. Let's just say that it reminds us a lot of El Paso (minus the cacti). Not much there but dirt and brush.

Here Lindsey is wearing the traditional dress of married women, a piece of fabric 6 meters long wrapped around from head to toe. Needless to say they come in an array of African prints and colors.


Near the wadis however, life does flourish, and mango trees line the banks of the once overflowing rivers. Here people come every day to haul water for themselves, and maybe some to sell to people like us.










The people pretty much live off Millet, which is surprisingly high in nutrients. Here you can see a group of people making their living pounding Millet for 8+ hours a day. They actually let us give it a try, and it is not at easy as it looks. If you had a baby, you would strap it to your back, and go right back to work.







The donkey is also an essential part of life there.
You could just call it their commuter car. We began to enjoy the sounds that they made...we never knew they were so loud or expressive. Who knows, maybe we will have a donkey of our own some day?
