Hot Tea

Tea is a big part of society here in Chad.  It is expected at nearly every visit to have at least 1 cup of hot tea.  Everyone in our family enjoys it - very sweet and strong and hot.  There are specific ways to hold the "funjal", which looks essentially like a shot glass.  You need to hold it between your thumb and 1st finger and sip it ever-so-carefully - with a big slurping sound!  Sometimes mistakes are made, fingers hurt and tongues burnt.  One such occasion happened to John Hardy last week.  In a hurry to drink another glass, he quickly poured and drank it...but did not realize how hot it was.  Needless to say he had a pretty painful mouth.  The photo below shows just how bad it was.  He was found early that next morning sleeping with his tongue hanging out of his mouth...that's pretty bad.
