Hali and William's Birthdays
October is an exciting month for our family as it is the only month that has two birthdays in it. Hali turned 6 on the 5th and William turned 2 on the 11th of October.
We had fun celebrating their special days in various locations away from home. For Hali's birthday we went swimming and ate crépes in France, and for William's birthday we had hotdogs and ice cream here in the capital. Both a cross-cultural affair, and both very memorable. The past year has been a year of leaps and bounds for both of them! Here are a few things they have been up to:
This year Hali learned to read and is now a full member at the Morgan Homeschool Academy. She also lost four teeth, and got her ears pierced (a bucket list item in her mind). She has finally started making Chadian friends, which is always helpful when you don't really have the opportunity to get to know people outside your immediate family otherwise. And lastly, Hali has learned to appreciate jokes. I'm not sure she has quite figured out the fine line between joking and lying, but thankfully it is always done in fun and not deceit. Happy 6th Birthday Hali!!!
William has learned a lot this year too! He learned to walk well and to run. He loves anything that involves a ball, and has exceptional aim. One of his most frequent lines is "Are you ready?" And you better get ready, because he's likely to smack you in the head if you're not. He learned how to greet people here and is well loved by Chadians because of it. Lastly, he is always on the go. If we want to leave the house without him, we have to sneak out. No matter who is going or where they are going, if he hears the word "go" he wants to go and is often left crying if he isn't allowed. I guess that's to be expected for someone who moved halfway across the world before they were even 12 weeks old. Happy Birthday Bubby!!!
