The House Came Crashing Down!

Have you ever read the parable in the book of Matthew where Jesus likens the people who listen to his teachings to people who have built their house on a rock.  The foolish people who don’t listen to the teachings of Jesus are likened to a man who built his house on sand.  Our children love to hear and tell this story again and again.  They have a favorite rendition that includes sound effects…..

“Down came the rain… <<Swish, Swish>>
Up came the water…  <<Splash, Splash>>
Around blew the wind…  <<Who-o-o, Who-o-o>>
The sand washed away, and down went that house. Crack-ety! Crash-ety! Smash-ety! BONG!

We have come to learn that the Bible really comes to life in Chad.  I can’t begin to tell you the number of passages that have just jumped right out of the pages for us.  Sadly, this passage too has taken real meaning here this week.  A family that we are good friends with here was away from their house for a time, and it was a good thing, because while they were away, as the rain came down, and the water came up, and the wind blew, the roof of their house came crashing down.  Thankfully no one was inside when it happened, as it could have given someone a fatal blow.  Later on another friend found the house looking something like this.

Friends were called, their things were moved and the clean up began.  Looks like they will have to look for another place to make their home when they return.

  1. Oh no! Praise God the house was empty! I'm sure the Lord will lead them to just the right place to move into, with the neighbors he wants them to meet! - Veronica
