Life in Abéché resolves much around the Suuk or local market. There are multiple locations and multiply types. There is Suuk Kabiir (the big market), the Wadi Suuk (the one in the river bed), the Suuk Watiir (the one for car parts), the metal suuk, the hand-crafted woven materials suuk, the rug/water storage container suuk and finally the animal suuk (where you buy cows, sheep, etc).
