My First Pet

When we lived in MN, I had a firm "No Pet" rule (much to my children's dismay).  I didn't feel like I could take care of another living being in the midst of taking care of my five kids.  Well, John Hardy is really an animal lover, and is in fact waiting to move to Africa in hopes that there he will have the freedom to adopt some stray animal and make it his own.  In the mean time, his thoughtful sister, Eliana, decided to give him an opportunity to have his first pet(s) here in Canada.  For Christmas, she gave him Sea Monkeys.   She wasn't able to afford the deluxe set, so he made use of an empty applesauce jar and followed the directions to create his own personal aquarium.  The kids have been found spending endless amounts of 'would be school time' gazing at the little underwater world, wondering about these curious little creatures.  Then one day John Hardy came to me and said, "Mom, I think they are mating."  That's what you get for letting your kids watch the Planet Earth series.  Sure enough, this week, some of them have what looks like eggs attached to them.  Our little aquarium might soon become a little under water nursery all over again.  That's the trouble with pets, just when you think you have them under control they multiply!
