The Roof
Living in a cement house has it's up's and downs. One downer is that it absorbs heat all day like an oven, and then in the evening it slowly lets it out. This means that when the temperatures start picking up the house is too hot to sleep comfortably in. The up side to a cement house is that the roof is flat, and accessible so that you can sleep more comfortably outside with a mosquito net and a mat (not to mention the incredible view of the stars in a place where they are not all drowned out by light pollution.) The roof is also valuable to us for other reasons.
Number one is that we keep our solar equipment there.
Number two is that we use our solar oven there as well because it gets constant sun.
And now number three is that we have just acquired two small scooters. Guess where we will be riding them....that's right, the only place where we have enough flat cement - the roof.
We also get a pretty good view of our neighborhood. The tall building in the picture below is the neighborhood mosque.

I don't know how many people can see yo on your roof, but our friends in river city set up a kiddie pool on their roof to get some relief from the heat, just an idea!!
